I need to call out to a web service. I want to make my own Java implementation of how to do this. I look at this page:
https://docs.jboss.org/jbpm/release/7.17.0.Final/jbpm-docs/html_single/#_service_task

From that page, I see that there are parameters, but I don't see how to set them or how to specify where my code is or how to make my code available to the system. I'm not clear on how a "work item" relates to an activity. Searching for "work item" leads me to a passage referring me to the section on domain specific processes which is what I'm looking for. I'm not sure why these two parts are so far from each other, or even what the point is of the existing service tasks.

This section 22 is dense. I want to print it out to read it, but my browser can't handle paginating the entire doc, and I can't find a file-per-chapter version. I copy-paste into a Google doc.

It's not clear how to set a process variable from a script. This should be a common enough activity to provide a code snippet.
