From-scratch implementation of Java Serialization

There is evidence to suggest that an reimplementation of Java Serialization from scratch using the JBoss Marshalling framework may yield measurable performance (and stability) gains over using reflection to poke into the JDK implementation. For example, are any bugs that exist in the various JDK implementations can be avoided this way. Also, all the tunable parameters in the marshaller configuration will be available as well.
