    Description

The Karaf command-line console provides a command "version-set-default" which makes future commands that take a version argument default to using the set version. If version-set-default is not used, the version argument defaults to 1.0.

The Hawtio console, however – particularly the Wiki section – always defaults to showing and entering values for version 1.0. Data entry pages that allow a version number to be entered – such as creating a new container – should default to using some user-specified version, not simply 1.0. While all Hawtio pages that show or enter a value do allow the configuration version to be set, the need to change this value repeatedly whilst navigating from page to page is time-consuming and error-prone.

Ideally, the default values of the version in the command-line console and the Hawtio console to be interchangeable. That is, the Hawtio console should use by default the same value of the version default as has been supplied at the command-line using version-set-default. Similarly, if a value for the default version is set in the Hawtio console, it should also have the same effect on the command-line console that executing version-set-default would have.

These changes would make the administration of systems that use many different versions, and tend to eschew the use of the default version 1.0, much easier and less prone to error.
