It does appear that the only thing in seam security that needs the faces dependency are the examples. So an elegant solution could be to move the security examples that depend on seam faces out (e.g. to the examples module), unless I am missing something.

That's a good idea, and I think we'll proceed with this - I've already moved the timeanddate example from the international module into the general examples because of the same issue.

Unfortunately this was required because we have a circular dependency between Seam Security and Seam Faces. I would like to find a more elegant workaround, but I can't think of any at the moment.
