In previous versions of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 5, it was found that the EJB3 deployer could slow a large deployment down significantly. This was because, during a deployment, the deployer scanned the entire archive to locate client deployment descriptors. It would ignore the deployment of any it found. This issue has been resolved by ensuring that all deployment descriptors are located directly in the META-INF directory, giving the deployer a single location to scan and leading to faster deployments.
