Richfaces 3.3.0.Beta1 and later: Java reference search hangs

      I have tried to produce a simple project where this error would occur, but wasn't able to. We can reliably reproduce it on a codebase of about 50 interdependent, maven-structured projects, with about 400Klocs of Java/XHTML. The projects themselves have Spring nature and other ones (Sonar, PMD, Checkstyle, FindBugs), but the problem occurs without any of the corresponding plugins installed.

      In our project setup, this is consistently reproducible by picking any method on any Java class and hitting cmd/ctrl-shift-g.

      Given a vanilla install of Eclipse/STS on either Mac/Windows plus the Richfaces plugin, a Java reference search (cmd/ctrl-shift-g) on a method results in:

      • The method references being found and displayed in the Search pane
      • The search continuing indefinitely, slowly allocating memory until the heap is exhausted.
