      BrowserMatch ".MSIE [2-5]\.." \

      downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0

      Show
      Replace entry BrowserMatch ". MSIE. " \ nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \ downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0 with BrowserMatch ". MSIE [2-5] \.. " \ nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \ downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0

      Description

Due to the presence of the following in the ssl.conf file
      BrowserMatch ".MSIE." \
      nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \
      downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0

apache always returns http 1.0 to Internet Explorer(IE) user-agents.

The configuration was introduced pre IE6, for Apache+OpenSSL, pre IE6, because IE encountered connection failures when interacting with HTTPS servers when Keep-Alive was used.

Looking through http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ieinternals/archive/2011/03/26/https-and-connection-close-is-your-apache-modssl-server-configura tion-set-to-slow.aspx it appears this configuration is outdated and should be replaced with something like

      BrowserMatch ".MSIE [2-5]\.." \
      nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \
      downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0

      to exclude versions pre IE6
