Two minor Python script bugs

probe_port.py:
On RHEL 5, the default version of Python is 2.4.x, and it doesn't support the "except Type as Variable:" syntax. It should be changed to use the logging module.

server_ctl.py:
32-bit JVMs do not support the "-XX:+UseCompressedOops" option.
