currently we use Mocha as a test runner. It would be nice to move these tests to using something like tape, https://github.com/substack/tape or maybe even AVA, https://github.com/sindresorhus/ava instead.

A major benefit would be to clean up the Global namespace that Mocha likes to clutter. Plus tests should become more readable.
