Support for "washing" an exception in error route handling

The use case for this feature is that you want to handle a certain exception, but might want to change (perhaps a new Exception) the Exception in question that gets exposed to users.
The suggestion here is to add support for the target method of an error route to optionally return an Exception. It could then either update the exception it was passed or create a new exception.
